The first elevated restaurant in its neighborhood has a sophisticated, lived-in charm that feels as if it’s always been there.
The first destination-worthy restaurant to open in the small Northeast Los Angeles neighborhood of Hermon, this project transformed a former church meeting hall into a warmly sophisticated bar and grill for Last Word Hospitality—the team behind Found Oyster and Queen Street. The challenge was honoring the generous bones of the existing space while giving it an identity that felt rooted and permanent, as if it had always been there.
A large central bar clad in tile and wood anchors the room, drawing guests in and organizing the space around it. Leather and wood booths line the perimeter, offering the kind of settled, comfortable seating that invites long dinners and lingering conversation. An irregular arrangement of art set against painted wood and tile walls evokes the craftsmanship of an earlier era—giving Hermon's the feeling of a room with history, even as a first-time guest.
